History
In early 2004 Freddie and Sonia Ambrose decided to send a get well card to a sick friend from church. At that time they realized that there was a void inreaching out to people facing life issues. This was expanded to included birthdays, anniversaries, sympathy, weddings, and to keep in touch. When asked if we had a name for our outreach, "Thinking of You Services" was born. Then one day Freddie, a Vietnam combat veteran, got inspired by a Gulf was documentary to reflect on the anguish felt by soldiers at mail call when none was received, so we decided to extend our outreach to them.
We earmarked the holidays as the perfect time to do so, and began collecting cards from everyone for our cause. That year we sent over 2500 cards with mini Bibles and tracts to service personnel overseas, and about eight to ten large care packages for sharing. These included items such as coffee, razors, energy bars, toiletries, and other assorted snacks. Through Civil Affairs Battalion, we also sent over 200 stuffed animals in the Iraqi children.
Locally, "Thinking of You Services" also donated hygiene items to the Veterans' Affairs Healthcare for the Homeless Veterans Program, care package books and stuffed animals to the South Dade Victims' Center and the Ladies of the Dove Organization. We also applied for and received not for profit status that year.
In October 2005 we held a card writing event at Southland Mall where the public came and wrote messages of support to the troops. That year we sent out over 3000 cards along with approximately eleven care packages.
We have continued to hold card writing events at teh mall and community fairs.
Thinking of You Services will endeavor to continue providing this encouragement for all those brave men and women who fight for our freedom.
